A lecture and workshop series devoted to creating opportunities for local and international designers to develop their knowledge in typography.
ISType brings together academics, industry professionals, and students to discuss issues in typography, current innovations in the field, and areas for growth in the future. The series was created in 2011 as an annual event, but since 2013 it has been held biennially.
The most recent conference, ISType 2015 Swift, was co-organized by myself and Özlem Özkal and attracted over 200 attendees from a wide variety of countries. In addition to this main conference, ISType also puts on a more frequent lecture series called ISType Mono. The most recent Mono event in 2016 featured one of the most eminent type designers of the 20th and 21st century, Matthew Carter, who shared his life long experience in type design and typographic history.
