Light Tap
Concept and Construction: Onur Yazicigil

2006

Light Tap is a responsive installation that investigates physical properties attached to light. Specifically, I tried to attach the properties of water drops coming out of a faucet to light. A faucet is mounted on the gallery wall, underneath it a bucket with water. Light pours out of the faucet and water ripples are reflected on the gallery wall and ceiling. If a visitor approaches the faucet and turns its handle, the light coming out of it starts to flicker, the more the faucet is closed, the slower the flickering until the light is completely turned off. The fading in and out of the light flickering is modeled after the slow build-up of water to form a drop and the rapid detachment of the drop of water from the faucet.
